Visakhapatnam : visakhapatnam, the headquarters of the district, the Revenue Division and the taluk of the same name, is situated on the Madras-Howrah broad gauge line. It is an important junction from where trains leave for Raipur, Calcutta and Madras. The city is built along the seashore of the Bay of Bengal, and it is bounded and broken by the bold headland called the Dolphin's Nose (357 metres above the sea level). This place is also known as the Blackmore's hill. The area comprising Visakhapatnam and Waltair extends from the south to the north and it has a fine road along the seashore.


Visakhapatnam has grown in importance educationally commercially and industrially. It is the seat of the Andhra University, the campus of which is located in the uplands of Waltair. It is a beautiful campus facing the sea on three sides and dotted with colleges, hostels, convocation hall, university library and laboratories. About 5,000 students and teachers reside in the campus. The places of interest in the city include the Dolphin's Nose, lighthouse with 7 million candle power and 64 kilometres range, harbour, Hindustan Shipbuilding yard, Caltex Oil Refinery, Coromandel Fertilisers' Factory, King George Hospital, Circuit House on the hill, a beautiful beach near the Ramakrishna Mission and an airport.
